Singapore Still World’s Busiest Container Transhipment Port, With Record 37.5m Teus of Throughput in 2021

In 2021, Singapore’s container throughput rose to a new record high of 37.5 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), helping the Republic to retain its pole position as the world’s busiest container transhipment port.

Singapore also kept its position as the top bunkering port, registering a total sales volume of both conventional fuels and liquefied natural gas of about 50 million tonnes last year.

The Republic also garnered a string of accolades for its performance for the year, including being named the top Leading Maritime City of the World for a fifth consecutive time in the international benchmarking study by Norwegian classification society DNV and Norwegian consultancy Menon Economics AS.
