Joint Industry Programme (JIP) Spearheading Maritime Innovation in Additive Manufacturing

The MPA-NAMIC-SSA Joint Industry Programme (JIP) has been launched in 2 phases to drive AM adoption in the maritime industry. Phase 2 of JIP will see collaborations between multiple industry cluster teams to trial 26 3D-printed ship and marine parts, with 7 projects helmed by Wilhelmsen Ships Services, 3DMetalforge, American Bureau of Shipping, Bureau Veritas, Lloyds Register and Thyssenkrupp.

Phase 2 of JIP is currently underway, and Ivaldi Group has taken on the role of project manager to manage 14 key industry players who will work together to produce certify, and ultimately install end-use parts onboard vessels [1].

The use of additive manufacturing will enable mass customization, production of complex parts and promote sustainability, on top of saving costs in the maritime industry.
