RMIT’s new ultra-stiff, energy-absorbing lattice for construction and safety applications

💡 Bio-Inspired, AM-Optimised Lattices for the Future! 💡

🕸️ Researchers at RMIT University have developed a deep-sea sponge inspired ultra-stiff, energy-absorbing lattice that could revolutionise construction and safety applications. As compared to conventional auxetic designs, the double-lattice structure is designed to optimise load distribution and deformation resistance, increasing the stiffness 13x and improving energy absorption by 10%.

Why does this matter for Additive Manufacturing?
✅ High strength-to-weight ratio for efficient designs
✅ Enhanced impact absorption for safety applications
✅ Scalability for applications in construction, defence and medical industries A major leap for performance-driven AM solutions!
