With an increasing population worldwide, how do we cope with the housing crisis? 3DPrinting could be one of the solutions to it!
Less than 2 years ago, 14Trees, a joint venture between Holcim, a major player in sustainable construction, and British International Investment, announced Mvule Gardens — the project to build 52 3D-printed homes in Kenya.
3D printing walls of 10 houses in Kilifi concluded Phase 1 of the project. It took about 10 weeks to manufacture the housing structure using one printer. Each home, ranging between 56 m² to 70 m², has 2 or 3 bedrooms.
The Mvule Gardens project was also awarded the EDGE Advanced sustainable #design certification by IFC, recognising resource-efficient buildings with zero carbon potential. It is the first 3D-printed housing program to achieve this certification.
