SINGAPORE’S ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING CAPABILITIES SET TO SOAR WITH NEW PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS DRIVING TALENT GROWTH AND ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

SINGAPORE – The 13th Global Additive Manufacturing Summit (GAMS) kicked off this morning, with Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry, as the Guest-of-Honour. The annual summit organised by the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC), is Singapore’s flagship additive manufacturing business event, convening over 400 in-person and virtual global delegates for the first day of the summit.

Global thought leaders exchanged ideas on how digital innovation and additive manufacturing technologies can create a more efficient, innovative, and environmentally conscious manufacturing landscape. An additive manufacturing startup pavilion led by NAMIC featured eight local and international players as well as winning exhibits from the additive manufacturing challenges organised by NAMIC hubs at the Industrial Transformation Asia Pacific (ITAP) 2024.

At GAMS, Minister of State Mr Alvin Tan gave an opening address highlighting the opportunity to further advance our additive manufacturing sector by growing green, growing with AI, and growing partnerships. He also launched local company Medairum’s ISO13485-certified 3D printing facility for medical products and custom foot orthotics manufacturing, and witnessed the inking of several public-private partnerships that will elevate Singapore’s additive manufacturing capabilities and talent pool.

These collaborations will drive the development of new additive manufacturing applications across different industries, increasing the demand for services from local additive manufacturing companies. The collaborations will also accelerate the development of the additive manufacturing talent pool, and the certification of additive manufacturing capabilities to further the growth of Singapore’s additive manufacturing ecosystem.

These public-private partnerships will help to strengthen Singapore’s position as one of the leading international digital manufacturing hubs offering a strong pool of talent and a collaborative ecosystem. NAMIC will continue to help companies develop the necessary capabilities to pivot towards high value-added business activities such as digital design and innovation, while supporting the shift towards more sustainable manufacturing practices enabled by additive manufacturing,” said Dr Ho Chaw Sing, Chief Executive Officer of NAMIC.

About the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC)
The National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) is a national platform led by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), supported by the National Research Foundation under the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, together with Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Economic Development Board. NAMIC aims to accelerate the adoption of hybrid and digital additive manufacturing technologies under Singapore’s Manufacturing and Economy 2030 Vision, helping industries transform towards innovation and high value-added manufacturing using sustainably sourced, nature-based designs and cradle-to-cradle on-demand manufacturing. NAMIC achieves this by focusing on value capture and creation through an industry sectorial engagement approach, leveraging on public-private partnerships and R&D investments, supporting translational research, and
accelerating industry test-bedding towards commercial scale-up. NAMIC continues to grow its international outreach, identifying and supporting deep-tech companies incorporating AM technologies seeking capital injection either through project joint-funding or its investor networks.
