What does it take for AM to move beyond? The fourth webinar will continue to explore the grand challenges of AM as a sunrise industry and its potential for growth. There will be two talks followed by a panel discussion. The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof Paulo Bartolo, SC3DP Executive Director.

Professor Milan Brandt
Distinguished Professor Milan Brandt is the Technical Director of RMIT University’s Digital Manufacturing Facility and Director Centre for Additive Manufacturing, RMIT University. Prof. Brandt is the lead Australian researcher in the area of macro machining and additive manufacturing with lasers and has conducted work over the last 37 years in laser cladding, cutting, drilling, welding and more recently additive manufacturing. This has resulted in technological achievements, patents, research papers and commercial products, which have been recognized internationally and nationally in both scientific and industrial circles. Professor Brandt is an executive member and fellow of LIA, honorary fellow of WTIA, Professorial Fellow department of Medicine, Melbourne University and adjunct Prof. University of Waterloo, Canada. In 2018 he was the president of the Laser Institute of America, the largest international association of researchers and industry involved with lasers and laser additive technology and in 2019 he was named the Engineers Australia Centenary Hero for his research which led to Australia’s first locally-manufactured 3D printed spinal implant that was implanted into a patient.
Mr Olivier Jay
Olivier Jay has an engineering degree from the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM), France (1998) and has more than 25-year of experience in Additive Manufacturing and product development. He was DTI’s AM head section for 10 years and was also in charge of the development of DTI´s AM international activities mostly in Europe. He founded FADDTORY in 2017 in Belgium to serve the industry and he makes consulting on the complete chain, from the strategic area, the implementation of technology to the optimisation and production. Olivier focuses on product design for AM and the production needs for the industry. He always grants importance to product specifications rather than focusing on the limitations of the machines. Developing new materials or implementing them into the machines have been some of his success. He also focuses on research and on educating the industry. He has held conferences and also gives Masterclasses courses on AM in Europe.
Through his work on the development of high end and complex products for the industry, his work has spanned from design for manufacturing to virtual reality as well as reverse engineering, during the last 25 years. He was the Project leader of the Compolight project under the FP7 MNP programs, and has held similar positions on many Danish projects in the field of AM, such as the Danish F-Mat project about functional materials with lattice structures or as WP leader in FP7 Nanomaster project about 3D printing with graphene.
