LRQA is a world leading digitally enabled assurance provider that brings together unrivalled expertise in certification, brand assurance, cybersecurity, inspection and training. From independent auditing, certification and training, to technical advisory services, real-time assurance technology and data-driven supply chain transformation, our innovative end-to-end solutions help our clients negotiate a rapidly changing risk landscape – making sure they’re shaping their own future, rather than letting it shape them.
Beginning in January 2016 with the launch of the LR-TWI Guidance Notes for Additive Manufacturing (AM), LRQA, then part of Lloyd’s Register (LR), became the first global inspection agency to offer certification for metallic parts. Since then, the Guidance Notes for metal AM have been updated twice (most recently in 2022) and Guidance Notes for polymer AM have also been published in 2021. LRQA is also engaged in a number of joint industry projects and research projects and was the first to certify an additively manufactured component for the Oil & Gas Industry. Our subject matter experts in AM also advise on the ISO/ASTM, ASME, CEN and API additive manufacturing standards committees, working together to update regulations and standards, resolve challenges and accelerate industry adoption.
Building on our world class research, LRQA can help you operationalise for AM with our complete end-to-end assurance and advisory services, including:
Parts Certification
As the first Inspection Agency to certify 3D printed oil and gas parts and the first to qualify AM facilities in Singapore: we can navigate you through the evolving standards and regulation landscape, giving you and your clients confidence in the parts produced. We assess each stage of the AM process: design, materials, manufacture, postprocessing and inspection to provide independent assurance.

Facility Qualification
LRQA AM Facility Qualification provides a tested framework to achieve certification and assurance. Being aligned with existing international standards on AM, it gives confidence to the supply chain that a facility has the necessary AM-specific controls. Our trained AM auditors and surveyors assess an AM facility in terms of material handling & storage, AM process & build control, personnel competency, health & safety, post-processing and inspection, corrective & preventative actions, and control of nonconforming items. The LRQA AM Facility Qualification is a globally recognized qualification and provides a path to materials and parts certification.

Advisory
Our AM team currently advises Governments, Oil Majors and Manufacturers on everything AM. Carefully managed to ensure impartiality from our certification services, we can answer your business’s AM questions, from regulation research, supply chain assessments, business case development, engineering assessments and more.
In response to the rising demand from the supply chain for quality assurance of AM produced materials and parts, we have also developed the unique advisory service to help additive manufacturers accelerate the process of implementing processes that comply with international standards and best practices. Through the development of procedures, work instructions and record template on behalf of the manufacturer, facilities will be ready to demonstration compliance and achieving certification. |
