University of New South Wales Sydney is conducting research on 3D bioprinting, more specifically 3D printing bones. They have developed a special ceramic ink that is able to be printed with live cells at room temperature, without dangerous chemicals.
Animal trials soon are soon under way for the 3D printed bones, and this is expected to unleash new opportunities for bioprinting in healthcare. 3D printing bones directly into patient’s body is the end goal of UNSW Sydney’s research.
